Chinese New Year 2017

Students got a chance to eat with chopsticks to celebrate Chinese New Year.

100th DAY

We celebrated 100th day with 100 fruit loop necklaces and 100 snacks.

Our class did a wonderful job on their 100th day home projects.

We also dressed up like we were 100 years old! I wish I could post more pics They were so cute!

January Writing and Art Projects

January was full of snowman and snow themed activities. First up, snow globes. Using their fingers students created a snowman scene in their "snow globes."

Next we read 'There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow.' We talked about the sequence of the items she swallowed. Then we wrote about what we would swallow if we where the old lady.

We also decorated our classroom with snowflakes. One was made using coffee filters and the other blue strips of paper with white paint.

Last up is the Snowmen at Night art and writing project. We  read 'Snowmen at Night.' Shaving cream was used to make the snowman's face. The students wrote about what they would do if they were snowmen at night.

PLTW

We finished the first module (Structure and Function) of Project Lead the Way awhile ago.Our last task was to solve a problem. Students had to design and build a paint brush that would paint a straight line (thick and thin), and dots.

AR Assembly Assembly

Accelerated Reader (AR) is reading comprehension web sight that students log in to after reading an approved AR book and answer questions about that book. They accumulate points for every test they pass. Those students who made their points goal receive an award. Since most kindergarten students aren't reading AR books just yet, we have decided to give AR awards to students who made their sight word goal for the second quarter. If you child made the goal, the will be invited to the Accelerated Reader assembly. The invite will go home Tuesday.

This assembly on a different date and is separate from the grade level assemble that we will be having next week. Another invite will be sent home for that date.

Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree -- Watercolor Painting and Fun Food

We used watercolors to decorate our Christmas trees.  They did such a great job. It will be added to their art portfolio and given to them at the end of the year. I apologize for the quality of this picture.

We also made some Christmas trees out of sugar cones, green frosting and M&M's. I think some were eaten before they made it home!

PLTW & The Gingerbread Man

PLTW- Structure and Function

The Three Little Pig's houses.

We listened to the Three Little Pigs and we discussed the structure and function of a house. Students were given materials to build a house. It had to have the following components:

  • a floor
  • walls
  • a roof
  • It had to withstand the blower fan (the Big Bad Wolf!)

The Gingerbread Man

We read the Gingerbread man then decorated him. Next we wrote a sentence that described him.
