December Fun!

We started off the month of December with the Gingerbread man hunt. Students solved clues and searched the campus for that rascally Gingerbread Man. Here is Mr. Pepe reading a clue to them.

When we finally found him, he was asleep on the play ground and Mr. Torres took him to his office, so that he could talk to him about his very naughty behavior.

We then went inside and created a Gingerbread Man Escape Prevention Plan.

Later on in the week we created our own Gingerbread man and wrote a sentence that described him.

The next week we got a visit from Santa and his silly Elf, road the Polar Express, made reindeer food and made edible Christmas trees.

Overall it was a great end to the first half of the school year.
Next month will be filled with snowmen, polar animals and the 100th day of school.

Pumpkin Week!

We learned all about pumpkins this week. Students made a Pumpkin Life Cycle Chart, sorted big and little pumpkins, participated in a Pumpkin Investigation, wrote about pumpkins using a Can Have Are chart and finished with cleaning the seeds and pulp out of a real pumpkin. I took the seeds home to bake and will give the kiddos their own bag of them to take home.

Math Partners at Work

We start off our Math Units with sorting concepts and matching quantities. I still don't have all of the Photo Release forms turned in so I am blocking faces from being shown, I think you can still see how much they enjoy working with a partners to solve problems.

Plant Unit

During our plant unit we learned what plants need to grow and thrive. We also discussed that we grow plants for many reasons. We made a Plant Lap Book to display what we learned.

The front cover has a flip book that describes the attributes of something living.

Here are some examples of our class's front cover creativity.

It's a little blurry, but I really wanted to show this student's work because she worked so hard on it.

On the inside, we labeled the parts of a plant (under the labels are pictures of the parts), made a flip book of what plants need to grow, the plant life cycle, and a plant Can Have Are Need chart. We grew green beans from seeds and there is a picture of the student holding the plant she grew.

Underneath the Plant Chart is the life cycle .

It was a really fun unit and the students loved it!

We are now working on our insect unit. Pictures coming soon.

A Whole Lot A Ocean

For the past month we have been learning about the Ocean and the animals that it supports. Mrs. Baldridge has created this pretty awesome Ocean unit. Students label and write about sea animals. I choose three for each animal to display in our classroom. Here are just a few.

We also have art that coincides with their writing.

Making coffee filter jellyfish!

Look how great our ocean T-Shirts turned out. We wore them for the field trip and I am keeping them till the Kindergarten Promotion on the last day of school.

Chinese New Year 2017

Students got a chance to eat with chopsticks to celebrate Chinese New Year.

100th DAY

We celebrated 100th day with 100 fruit loop necklaces and 100 snacks.

Our class did a wonderful job on their 100th day home projects.

We also dressed up like we were 100 years old! I wish I could post more pics They were so cute!

January Writing and Art Projects

January was full of snowman and snow themed activities. First up, snow globes. Using their fingers students created a snowman scene in their "snow globes."

Next we read 'There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow.' We talked about the sequence of the items she swallowed. Then we wrote about what we would swallow if we where the old lady.

We also decorated our classroom with snowflakes. One was made using coffee filters and the other blue strips of paper with white paint.

Last up is the Snowmen at Night art and writing project. We  read 'Snowmen at Night.' Shaving cream was used to make the snowman's face. The students wrote about what they would do if they were snowmen at night.
